There are numerous books, articles and seminars available to help you become an author. After all there can be big money in being an author. Just ask Stephen King or Tom Clancy. No matter what type of ebook writing you intend to do, whether it is fiction, non-fiction, technical, self-help, philosophical or just your autobiography, you'll need to get your point across. You need to be able to express in words what you're thinking so that other can share your thoughts.
You can take a writing class, seminar or read a book on how to write effectively. Knowing how to write however is not one of the essentials of ebook writing. Are you puzzled yet? How many of the millions of ebooks out there do you think were actually written by the person who is actually selling it? 100%, 75%, 50% or less? There is no way to tell for sure but I would wager that perhaps in the beginning of ebook marketing it was close to 100%. Now I would venture to say that maybe half of all ebooks written are commissioned works. Outsourcing ebook writing has become big business. I've even contemplated it from time to time! The reason is that the world has shrunk because of the internet. You can have someone from any part of the world work for you. Just think, you can be like Nike and employ the cheapest labor around the globe so you can have the biggest profits.
In fact, you can pay people to write your ebook, create the ebook cover, create your ebook sales website, market your webpage and handle your customer service. You only need to be able to pay for everything and then collect all the profits!
Now I realize that most of you won't be paying people to do all of this for you, at least not initially. So you will have to do all those things I outlined above for yourself. First, you need to choice an ebook topic and write about. Decide how much effort you want to put into it. Are you writing the ebook just to make money or do you have a passion about what you are writing. That will depend on just how much effort you will put into your work.
Secondly, you need to design and create an ebook cover. Depending on your target audience, you may want to create more than one. Each demographic is attracted to slightly different visual stimuli. You goal is to focus on their hot buttons and push, push, push those hot buttons.
Thirdly, you'll need to create a sales page. You'll need good sales copy. Learning how to write good sales copy takes time. Find copy you like and practice typing it out. Eventually you'll get used to writing that way and your copy will come naturally. There are key elements that must be included in your copy in order for you to be successful. You must gain the potential customer's trust. You do this with a guarantee, testimonials and excerpts from your ebook. Follow the script of the famous infomercials. Give them a price break if they order now. Better yet give them a bonus for ordering now! Be creative. Infomercials work because they target buyer's hot buttons. That is what your sales page needs to do also.
Finally, you'll need to get people to that fabulous sales page so they can be sold. Traffic to your sales page can be generated a number of ways. You can pay for it using Adwords, paid placements etc. You can have people send you traffic for free. This is done by setting up a Clickbank or other affiliate promotion account and paying a commission to people who send you traffic. You only have to pay them when you make a sale. The best way is to get search engine traffic since that is free and really helps the bottom line. Search engine traffic takes time and effort to get.
